Abstract

This paper is an illustration of what lead Sejahtera Leadership Initiative (SLI) develops a new course designed specifically to address the Sejahtera Leadership component for MBA program offered to any relevant Graduate Business School. This new course could also be incorporated into any postgraduate or executive development programs. Unlike the business school curriculum, which was either function-specific or broad-based and philosophic, this course provided a holistic view of Sejahtera leadership function fused with a pragmatic, hands-on, result-driven values orientation. This approach dovetailed with the ancient wisdom, taken from the Malay Archipelago, from philosophy of Imam Al-Ghazali, and from the teaching of the old Chinese moral teacher Confucius (Kung-fu-tse), who was almost a contemporary of Socrates and Plato. The concluding account of revered management thinker Peter Drucker is the trusted guide in this article that offers his penetrating and practical wisdom, clarity, vision, and humanity. Leadership is the proven result of the achievement of some goals through others. This is a widely accepted definition of leadership. In a sense, it is undoubtedly true. The improvement of interpersonal relationships is consequently a major task for the leader. It is a precondition for the achievement of goals. This yields a different definition for Sejahtera leadership: that leadership is goal-directed community development. A Sejahtera community culture may have a wide humane variety of qualities. This means that every company or institution is a combination of professional (or corporate) culture and community culture. The strength of a company, including both its creativity and organizational performance, depends consequently both on its leadership competence and the social competence of its employees. The role of Sejahtera leadership appears to have a decisive influence.
